About the event
John Coulter, with several decades experience exploring sound, brings us an Aeolian Harp constructed of found rākau (driftwood) on Collingwood Beach. "The beach is a wash-up spot for beautiful native wood – swept down from Kahurangi National Park by the Aorere River. The harp strings “sing” as the wind plays them. The harp will respond to differences in wind speed, strength and direction, responding in volume and pitch to these factors. The wind tends to pick up through the day on Collingwood Beach. The harp draws viewers/listeners attention to the beauty and abundance of the beach. They will also notice the wind, perhaps on repeat visits noticing the difference in the quality of sound the harp makes."
