In this experiential workshop, we will explore the interconnectedness of the natural world, our senses, the built environment, and our unique creative practice. We will move between spaces, mix up our senses, and broaden who we are as poets. The focus will be upon delving into where and how we draw inspiration for our work. Participants will have the opportunity to try out techniques, create new work, and explore their personal connections between internal and external worlds.
Iona Winter (Waitaha/Kāi Tahu/Pākehā) is the author of three collections: then the wind came(2018), Te Hau Kāika(2019), Gaps in the Light(2021), and her upcoming books (poetry and non-fiction) are due for publication in 2024. Skilled at voicing difficult topics, Iona creates work that spans genre and form.In 2022 she was the CLNZ/NZSA Writers’ Awardrecipient and completed A Counter of Moons, a creative non-fiction book addressing the complexities of suicide bereavement. Iona founded Elixir & Star Press in 2023, a dedicated space for the expression of grief in Aotearoa, in memory of her late son and musician Reuben Winter. The inaugural publication a liminal gathering, was launched in November 2023. Iona lives in the Tasman region.
